Collingwood vs Essendon Seniors Preliminary Final

The Collingwood Seniors faced up against the Essendon Bombers in one of the greatest displays of finals wheelchair footy in history. Collingwood centre Josh Christian competed well in the ruck to give his teammates clear access to the footy. Collingwood led by 14-points at quarter time. The second quarter was a tight contest, both teams struggled to create clear pathways to goal and defended the court well. Collingwood led by 12-points at half time. The third quarter the pies looked to come away with the win with 3 more goals and looked to put the bombers away. They led by 17 points at three quarter time. Collingwood began to show signs of fatigue in the earlier stages of the fourth. Inaccuracy in front of goal cost them as Essendon took advantage of the pie’s low energy patch. For the first time in VWFL history, the scores were level in a final with both teams having a score of 66 a piece and extra time was required. Unfortunately, Collingwood ran out of gas during extra time not being able to put a single goal on board. It capped off a fantastic season from the Collingwood seniors as they look to go one step further in season 2023.
