Both of Collingwood’s VWFL divisions (Championship and Community) went to battle with the Bombers in a trip down the highway at the Leisure Time Sports Precinct in Geelong.
The Championship Division’s most defining moment came when Captain Ben Jankovski slotted a crucial goal late in the final quarter to put the Pies in front late, capping off an incredible individual nine-goal haul.
Forwards Ben Jankovski (9) and Anthony Perito (5) were electric and dominated the scoreline, combining for 14 goals and keeping the pressure on the Bombers all afternoon.
Perito’s long-range efforts proved vital during the hard-fought match, while Brad Axford had the composure to keep the deliveries up forward running hot.
Axford provided a steady hand through the centre. His clean delivery and smart ball use once again set up several scoring chains.
Despite fielding just five available players for the second time this season, the team showed heart and resilience in a fiery, high-scoring match between the two sides.
The Senior side completes Round 9 sitting third on the 2025 VWFL Championship Division ladder.
Community Division
It was a tale of two sides in Round 9 for the Wheelchair Magpies.
While the goals were running hot in game one, it was a tough day on the scoreboard for the Community Division.
The highlight of the game came when Matthew Blunt nailed his first goal of the season with a brilliant boundary-line finish, after being pushed forward in a tactical move.
Blunt worked tirelessly through both roles throughout the game - both in the centre and when switched into the forward line - doing all he could to keep the Pies competitive.
Defender Arnold Razon is continuing his strong 2025 season and was consistent across both ends of the court, creating space and presenting as a reliable target.
Forward Jack Elliott was also a standout, kicking two goals and shifting into defence late to steady the ship.
After Round 9, the Pies are sitting on third on the Community League’s Ladder.
With one round to go in the season, the Pies will be eyeing a strong finish to launch into the 2025 VWFL Finals campaign on Sunday 3 August.
