With a solid preseason under their belts, the Collingwood Magpies Community Football Team is ready and raring to go in Round 1 of their 2023 season.
Kicking off on Wednesday 5th April, the team will play their first game away from home in Werribee against the Werribee Tigers. With a history of competitiveness between the two sides, the clash is sure to impress.
After a strong performance and impressive win in the 2022 Reclink Grand Final, the team heads into the season feeling confident in their position.
The team has been training every Wednesday at Victoria Park since January with squad numbers remaining consistent.
Senior Coach and YSAS Team Leader, Shane Williams believes that engagement in the program naturally increases with more awareness but is always happy to see players move on due to gaining employment or schooling.
“It’s the best call you can receive as a Reclink coach, hearing that kids are getting back into school or have secured employment.”
“The team is really looking forward to pulling on the mighty black and white for our first hit out of 2023. For many of the players, Wednesday is a real highlight, and the power of football brings them together from all over Melbourne.”
Shane reinforces the message that all players are welcome despite their background and that the program exists to provide not only a sense of belonging and connection back to the community but also a pathway to other opportunities.
Round 1 kicks off at 11am at Soldiers Reserve in Werribee on Wednesday 5th April.
All spectators are welcome. Go Pies!
