The Collingwood Football Club is proud to support the Good Friday Appeal in 2023 with a visit to the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) in Melbourne.
Collingwood AFLW players; Imogen Barnett, Jordyn Allen, Olivia Barber and Lauren Brazzale took to the wards, bringing laughter and joy to numerous sick kids and their families.
Imogen Barnett, Collingwood AFLW key forward has a special connection to these patients, assisting them daily in her role as a full-time nurse at the RCH.
"I work on the Kookaburra Ward, which is primarily childhood cancers and bone marrow transplants. So we have a range of children who can be in the hospital for as little as 2 weeks, to a few months, to a few years." says Imogen.
"These kids are going through something I have never and hopefully will never have to understand... to play a part in their journey and help make it as positive an experience as possible... I'm very privileged to do what I do."
The Good Friday Appeal is a charity that brings all sectors of the community together every year to raise much needed funds for the RCH in Melbourne.
Culminating in a telethon on Good Friday, the funds raised during this Appeal enable the RCH to provide world-class care to young patients and their families.
Olivia Baber, commenting on the stories of the children and families she met during her visit as well as the incredible work the hospital does to support them said:
“I’m actually speechless. I’m amazed at what these kids go through at such a young age. These kids are so strong and brave and being here today has completely changed my perspective on life.”
In 2022, the Appeal raised a record breaking $22,328,154.00 and the Collingwood Football Club is privileged to help contribute to this year’s tally.
