Collingwood celebrate diversity and inclusion at Vic Pride

Collingwood staff and players unite in support of LGBTQIA+ communities at Victoria’s Pride Festival Street Party.

Held in Melbourne’s iconic Gertrude and Smith Street precinct and signalling the end of Midsumma Festival, the Vic Pride Street Party is a vibrant culmination of the various state-wide events that have taken place since December in celebration of Victoria’s Pride.

Collingwood staff and players were in attendance hosting a mega-sized stall that was fittingly positioned adjacent to the Grace Darling Hotel on Smith Street, often referred to as the birthplace of the Magpies many years ago.

In partnership with Stand Up Events, the Club provided not only an opportunity for fans to meet their favourite AFLW stars but to be educated on sexual and gender discrimination in sport.

Patty Vagg from Stand Up Events noted, “I had a ball talking to passers-by about how our stall was a celebration of the work Collingwood Football Club has done to create an inclusive and welcoming culture for staff, players and supporters. I was also able to mention the 7-year relationship Collingwood has had with Stand Up… it really showed people that this wasn’t just a recent thing.”

There was also a free photobooth and giveaways on offer, as well as the option to join Collingwood’s very own Pride Supporter Group launching in the coming months.

AFLW athletes Bri Davey, Sarah Rowe and Britt Bonnici were out in force, talking all things diversity and inclusion in sport with both young and old Pies supporters in attendance.

The day was a chance for Melbourne to come together and demonstrate their pride in and support for LGBTQIA+ communities, giving them the representation and connection they deserve. Collingwood is proud to be present and continually involved in events like these, bringing to light ways in which we can support at both an individual, team and club level.
