International Women's Day - Staff Spotlight: Molly Cosgriff

08 Mar 2022

Molly Cosgriff has helped grow the AFLW program since day dot. Starting at the Western Bulldogs as a video producer, Molly came to Collingwood to continue her passion for sharing the stories of our brilliant female athletes.

As part of our International Women's Day staff spotlight series, we sat down with Molly to talk about her experiences working in sport.

What does International Women's Day mean to you, and can you speak to how important it is for sporting organisations to recognise such days?

International Women's Day is definitely empowering as a female and I’m sure other females both across the industry and the world in general can agree.

I can look back at 15 year old Molly who was looking for jobs in the creative industry and couldn’t see myself getting there.

It’s an honour to have a job like this.

International Women's Day provides a space to highlight the wonderful women that work in sport and at Collingwood.

What does it mean to you as a female to work in a largely male dominated industry?

It’s an honour, it’s empowering.

I’ve worked in this field for almost 5 years now. I’ve only ever come across one or two other females that do something similar to me and even then, they usually have a background in journalism or something else relevant to media.

It’s great to see what was once considered male dominant industry, now become a place where girls can be; girls who’ve always dreamed to work and play in this field can now live out those dreams.

Even in university it was a male dominant class, but I’ve always had a creative side and I wasn’t going to turn down an opportunity once I got a foot in the door.

I didn’t always know I was going to end up in sport, especially considering its a male dominant industry.

Can you talk to how much working at Collingwood means to you?

It’s a privilege to work for a club like Collingwood, especially in a role where I get to focus on women’s sports.

It feels good to know that my sole focus is to not only cover women’s sports across the league, but also tell the stories of the incredible athletes that we have here.

Collingwood has given me an amazing opportunity to work with so many women across both AFLW and Netball.

I love it here, I love the culture, I love the support for women. Not only myself but those around me, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Working in AFLW since the inaugural season, it’s been amazing to see how the sport has developed and how the respect for female athletes has grown over time.

I am proud to know that my work has contributed to the growth of the sport by showcasing the inspiring athletes we have at Collingwood.
