What a month it’s been for the Collingwood Community as September comes to a close.
For the third year running, the Liptember campaign has been at the core of Collingwood’s community program this month. With funds for Liptember helping support the Magpie Nest Women’s Program, it has been fantastic to see the athletes help get behind the cause.
Liptember does a fantastic job at building awareness around women’s mental health, encouraging #RealTalk, especially in a time when many people find themselves separated from friends and family.
AFLW co-captain Brianna Davey has been fantastic in supporting this cause, making headlines alongside Collingwood Netball star Shimona Nelson.
Davey’s AFLW team mates also showed their support for Liptember, sharing these fantastic images of a ‘message in the mirror’, identifying now as a really important time to be authentic, open and honest about our mental health.
Collingwood’s Netballers also got around the cause!
No one personifies those messages more than the wonderful Simone O’Brien. A victim of domestic violence, Simone shared her story and her battles with mental health in a chat with Davey.
Simone is a fantastic ambassador for Collingwood’s Magpie Nest program, and continues to spread important messages around domestic violence and the impacts it is having on society.

After their season was put on halt with Melbourne’s lockdowns, Collingwood’s Reclink team has done a fantastic job at remaining connected as a team.
Led by Shane Williams and Chris McGeachan, the Reclink side has engaged in a variety of activities to help maintain the connections within the team.
A key one was the ‘Magpie Lockdown Challenge” where the team made sure to stay active and keep fit during Melbourne’s lockdown.
The team stays in touch via weekly Zoom calls as a way of keeping the players engaged with each other and the program.

Collingwood’s 2022 and 2023 Indigenous Guernsey will be designed by a member of the Magpie Army thanks to 47 incredible entries to the recently closed competition.
A selection panel including players and staff will determine the winner of the 2022 jersey.
The design will be worn across the Magpies' AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW Netball and Wheelchair teams, with the aim to highlight great Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artwork.
