Collingwood Community: October Update

31 Oct 2021

Collingwood continued its strong Community program during the month of October.

The most heart warming moment came when we welcomed Andy Tserkezidis to our AFLW program as a property assistant.

Andy grew up a close friend go AFLW co-captain Brianna Davey, and after reconnecting recently at their local Coles, Bri and the community team saw an opportunity for Andy and the Football club to connect.

A passionate football man, Andy has built an impressive CV working across multiple football clubs. However, after COVID saw him lose his job at his last club, Andy has struggled to find any new opportunities in sport.

Living with a disability has never stopped Andy, his perseverance, passion and commitment is inspiring and arrives at the club as a real asset to our football program.

Thanks to our community partner Coles, you can watch Andy’s first day at the club below.

As Melbourne’s lockdown comes to an end, Collingwood were able to support Headspace Collingwood in hosting a vaccination clinic at the Magpie Community Centre based within Victoria Park.

YSAS and Headspace Collingwood partner with the club in helping support youth with a variety of support services.

This vaccination clinic was a great opportunity for the club to help get our community vaccinated as a means of keeping those we care about safe.

In October both World Mental Health Awareness Day and World Homelessness Day fell on the same day (October 10th).

Our Magpie Nest program operates in partnership with the Salvation Army Project 614 and Coles to help people who are homeless and disadvantaged.
