2021 Wheelchair Football Season Launch

30 Apr 2021

The Collingwood Football Club is proud to once again field a team in the Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League (VWFL) in 2021.

The 2021 VWFL Squad was part of the Season Launch on Thursday 29 April at the Glasshouse. The event was attended by representatives from the Robert Rose Foundation, Disability Sport and Recreation along with the administration staff at Collingwood.

The twelve person squad were presented their guernseys by Collingwood great and past President Kevin Rose and his daughter Natalie Rose. Part of the twelve person squad is Premiership winning coach and Captain Brendan Stroud.

“It’s such an honour once again to pull on the black and white stripes this coming weekend,” Stroud said.

“To see such a fantastic turn out here this afternoon shows the collective support of the club and our Community.

“We are a family here at Collingwood and our Wheelchair football team optimise that and we can’t wait to see the unique strengths of each of our team members shine through over the course of the year.”

The season will commence on Sunday May 2 at Boroondara Sports Complex.

The Robert Rose Foundation is named in honour of former Magpie, Robert Rose. The son of Collingwood icon Bob Rose, Robert became a quadriplegic following a car accident in 1974.

The VWFL is designed to provide sporting opportunity for Victorians with a physical disability. Five AFL clubs will be represented in the 2021 season, with Collingwood, Hawthorn, Essendon, St Kilda and Richmond all fielding teams.
