Women in Black & White Luncheon

19 Jun 2023

The Collingwood Football Club is full of strong women who are driven to make the Club a better place.

On Thursday, June 8th the Women in Black and White (WIBW) group held their first lunch for all female and non-binary staff members at the Collingwood Football Club.

The WIBW group was created to ensure that female and non-binary staff members are always on the agenda at Collingwood through championing respect, diversity and inclusion at the Club.

The group aims to encourage everyone at Collingwood to look out for each other and those in need, as part of the Club’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all.

The lunch was hosted at The Commons at Ormand Collective in their beautiful conservatory and was an opportunity for 40 female staff members to engage in an open discussion about what impacts them specifically and what the Club can do to ensure that they are always on the agenda.

Some of the topics covered were:

"What improvements can Collingwood make to the organisation to be more women and non-binary person inclusive."

"What is the Club already doing to achieve this and what more can the Club do to move closer to this."

Head of Foundation, Mardi McMillan had this to say about the day:

"It was a great afternoon. There was honesty, insightful ideas shared and of course lots of laughs, which is pretty standard when 40 incredible women come together in the same room."

The lunch itself was filled with many memorable moments, positive energy and of course, delicious food.

Most importantly, the lunch was a safe space for open communication and discussion that will bring about positive change moving forward.

Collingwood Media Manager and one of the founding members of the WIBW group, Tash Lewis noted:

“The Club’s women’s lunch was an important way to connect and hear from the women of the business. A credit to everyone who got involved – we have a group of strong, brilliant individuals who are all eager to drive positive change."

“Events, such as this, are invaluable to the Club’s progression and we will continue to engage our female and non-binary staff throughout the year."
