Collingwood supports Liptember 2021

20 Sep 2021

The last 18 months have presented many challenges to the Collingwood community, but none more significant and testing than the continued struggle against mental health.

For the 3rd year running, Collingwood has been a part of creating awareness for this cause as a part of Liptember. Liptember is an organisation that campaigns to start real conversations about women’s mental health, with funds that go towards the campaign helping support Collingwood’s Magpie Nest Women’s Program.

This year, AFLW Co-Captain Brianna Davey sat down with Simone O’Brien in a one-on-one conversation about this challenge.

A victim of domestic violence, Simone’s story is one of inspiration, strength and hardship. The way Simone has used her incident to help create awareness about domestic violence is outstanding. She continues to work every day to prevent other women from going through what she had to.

We also saw some of Davey’s team mates help promote Liptember as part of a ‘message in the mirror’ campaign. In 2021, ensuring you are open, honest and authentic with yourself has never been more important.

Alongside Davey in creating awareness for Liptember was Collingwood superstar netballer Shimona Nelson.

In addition to Liptember, Collingwood once again recognised R U OK Day on the 9th of September. A day that aims to promote conversations around mental health and checking in on those close around you.
